The Japanese conglomerate Kadokawa began streaming a 115-second advance promotional video for the Maken-Ki! action romantic comedy anime on Monday. The anime will premiere on Japanese television this October.
Hiromitsu Takeda's Maken-Ki! original manga centers around Takeru Ōyama, a boy enrolled in an elite school where the girls (and boys) fight with mysterious items called Maken. The student body includes the enigmatic girl Kodama, a girl named Inaho who calls herself Takeru's fiancée, and his childhood friend Haruko.
Koichi Ohata (Ikki Tousen, Burst Angel) is directing the anime at AIC. Yousuke Kuroda (Hayate the Combat Butler, Highschool of the Dead, Trigun) is in charge of the scripts, and Nobuteru Yuki (Escaflowne, X, Record of Lodoss War) designed the characters.
The manga launched in Dragon Age Pure magazine in 2007, but it has been running in Monthly Dragon Age since 2009. The manga's sixth compiled book volume shipped earlier this month, and the first volume in the novel adaptation is on sale via the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint.
