The August issue of Shuiesha's V Jump magazine is announcing on Tuesday that Bandai Namco Games is releasing a "cinematic melee action" game called Saint Seiya Senki for the PlayStation 3 console this fall. The story is set in the Hades — Chapter Sanctuary arc of Masami Kurumada's Saint Seiya mythological fantasy manga and anime as the player faces waves of countless enemies. The characters Pegasus Seiya, Dragon Shiryū, Cygnus Hyōga, Andromeda Shun, Phoenix Ikki, and Taurus Aldebaran are all featured.
The game will mark the 25th anniversary of Kurumada's 1986-1990 manga and Toei Animation's subsequent 1986-1989 television anime. Toei had confirmed earlier this year that a new computer-animated film of Saint Seiya has been green-lit.
Viz Media published the 28th Saint Seiya manga volume in North America last year, and ADV Films and DiC Entertainment released the Saint Seiya anime in North America. The ongoing Saint Seiya video anime spinoff, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa, launched in February. The media-distribution website Crunchyroll began streaming the first season of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland that same month, and it is also streaming the second season.
