On Tuesday, the Japanese toy giant Takara Tomy revealed in its most recent financial statement presentation that an anime adaptation of its B-Daman toy franchise has been green-lit for this fall. The company had relaunched this franchise under the name Cross Fight B-Daman last year. (The financial statement presentation covered the fiscal year ending in March 2011.)
The franchise relaunch features character designs by Yūji Nagai, creator of the manga A Penguin's Troubles. Similar to the original, the new toys launch marbles to start the game.
The original B-Daman game sold over 80 million units in 30 regions worldwide in its lifespan. In 2004, Hasbro, Fox Entertainment Group, and Atlus USA brought the toys, anime, and games (respectively) to the United States. The B-Legend! Battle Bedaman series aired on Cartoon Network, Toon Disney, and G4. The series also aired in at least 10 other countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Germany, Ecuador, and the Philippines.
