The networking company Dwango announced on Tuesday that ai sp@ce, the 3D virtual world inhabited by Clannad, Shuffle!, and D.C. II: Da Capo II bishōjo game characters, will shut down on June 30. The community game is a collaboration between the software developer Headlock (Detective Evangelion, Neon Genesis Evangelion Battle Orchestra), the game company Bushiroad, the visual novel developer Visual Art's (Clannad), and the visual novel developer CIRCUS (D.C. II: Da Capo II). The service formally launched in October of 2008.
The community game has already stopped registering new users as of the last update on Tuesday, and all items that once cost money are now free. (The game itself is free for basic gameplay.) Dwango still plans to hold one last "ai sp@ce live broadcast" event on June 24 just before closing ai sp@ce the following week.
