Takashi Miike, the one-time cult director who has entered the Japanese mainstream with his live-action Yatterman and Crows Zero films, told interviewer Karin Badt at the Cannes Film Festival that his next film is a court drama based on a Nintendo DS videogame. Unlike other films he has directed, he said that his next film has "little blood." He added, "It is a very light comedy that I am filming now, a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS."
The Nintendo DS games set in a courtroom include CAPCOM's Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban) franchise — the most famous example — and Namco's Yūzai x Muzai.
Miike was attending Cannes since Ichimei (Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai), his live-action 3D film remake of the 1962 film Seppuku (Harakiri), was competing for the festival's top honor, the Palme d'Or.
