The Association of Japanese Animations is hosting an Anime Charity Auction with items from various anime, including the Macross Frontier science-fiction series, at the Tokyo Anime Center in Tokyo's Akihabara district. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Japanese Red Cross to support victims of the March 11 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster.
The auctions began on April 12 and will end on May 31. Bidders can visit the center to bid on items, which are on display, or fans can visit the center to see messages of support drawn by anime creators.
The Macross Frontier creators added new items to the charity auction on May 16. Director Shoji Kawamori, character designers Risa Ebata and Yûichi Takahashi, and mechanical artist Hidetaka Tenjin all contributed illustrations for the auction. Tenjin also contributed original illustrations for the main character Alto's cockpit, as well as for the YF-29, VF-19, and VF-1 variable fighters, that were used to create posters for the Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa film. Mechanical designer Toshiharu Murata and animation director Hirotaka Marufuji contributed prints.
