A new stage musical version of the first Saint Seiya mythological fantasy anime film will run in Shibuya's Space Zero theater in Tokyo from July 28 to July 31. Cocoa Otoko vocalist and voice actor Kenta Kamakari (Air Gear's Minami "Ikki" Itsuki, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!'s Dino) will play the main character Pegasus Seiya. Kamakari also performed in The Prince of Tennis musical ("Tenimyu") as Ryō Shishido and in the Air Gear musical as Minami Itsuki. The 1987 Saint Seiya Gekijoban anime movie itself is a sequel to the television anime adaptation of Masami Kurumada's Saint Seiya manga.
The Nico Nico Douga website will stream the musical live; tickets will be required to watch the live Internet stream. Tickets will go on sale for both the stage musical and the live broadcast in June, and on the same day more of the the musical's cast will be announced.
Kurumada ended his and Shiori Teshirogi's Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa prequel manga in April and will launch a spinoff series titled Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa Gaiden this month. The media-distribution site Crunchyroll is currently streaming the Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa original video anime outside Japan, and Toei Animation confirmed in February that it has plans for a new computer-animated Saint Seiya film.
