The market survey firm Oricon Communications has announced on Wednesday that One Piece Film Strong World has topped both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc charts for a second week in a row. The 10th Anniversary Limited Edition DVD of the film sold 25,916 more copies during the August 30-September 5 week for a two-week total of 146,602, while the regular edition DVD sold 16,667 more copies for a total of 51,940. The Blu-ray version was also ranked #1 for a second week in a row on its respective chart.
The last time that two DVD editions of the same work ranked one-two for two weeks in a row was when the deluxe collector's edition and "regular" collector's edition of Michael Jackson's This Is It debuted this past February. However, this is the first time that any anime work accomplished that feat since Oricon began posting its charts. It is also the first time that any anime work ranked #1 for two weeks in a row on both the DVD and Blu-ray charts.
The One Piece Log Collection "Nami" compilation DVD also ranked #6 with 5,849 copies to add to its two-week total of 27,456. Similarly, One Piece Log Collection "Logue Town" ranked #8 with 5,496 copies to add to its two-week total of 26,388.
One Piece Film Strong World, Munehisa Sakai and Toei Animation's 10th film in the One Piece anime franchise, shipped on home video with new scenes added at the request of creator Eiichiro Oda. Unlike on previous films, Oda had personally overseen the new film's production last year. He also collaborated on the film's story and designs for the costumes and creatures.
