The Chicago International Film Festival will host an advance screening of anime Astro Boy on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. With this computer-animated film, director David Bowers and IMAGI adapt Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy manga about a young robot hero. The film opened in Japan last Saturday, and it will open throughout North America on October 23.
Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror unit director Naoyoshi Shiotani will appear at the New York premiere of his film on Friday, October 30. He will give a short introduction before the 7:30 p.m. screening. Shinsuke Sato and Production I.G's computer-animated feature follows a girl named Haruka as she discovers where all of our childhood keepsakes and memorabilia go. Creatures from a different dimension gather these trinkets and forgotten treasures as their owners grow up. With their booty, the creatures have built their own city called Oblivion Island. The film opened in Japan in August, and it had its international premiere at Spain's Sitges Film Festival earlier this month.
